The Bangalore band returns after a 2-year hiatus to launch their debut album.
“I’ve never had an experience such as this. It’s enriched me as a person and taught me not just music lessons but also life lessons”, guitarist Ramanan Chandramouli says of working on Blushing Satellite’s debut album, ‘The Union’. It’s been close to a month since the album has been released, and the Bangalore-based band is all set to debut their new music live.
The music of Blushing Satellite incorporates bits of R&B, Progressive Rock, Jazz and Psychedelic Rock. Each song in the album seems to flow organically, often crossing the 6-minute mark (sometimes, even more) but never losing the essence of the album. “The sound of the album is progressive but groovy. It invites the listener on an introspective journey. I don’t believe in writing short pop songs with a verse-chorus-bridge format. Each song has a life of its own. There’s no hurry to get to the hook.” says Ramanan.
Perhaps what makes ‘The Union’ a good listen is the presence of an overarching theme, centered around eastern philosophy and spirituality. However, songs like ‘Dream – Nightmare – Union‘ challenge listeners. The 14-minute track sees Blushing Satellite using a variety of sounds & textures beyond their instruments to paint with a truly fascinating musical palette. Sonically, this is one of the most exciting things to come out of the Indian indie scene in recent history.
Blushing Satellite has got a special show planned for their album launch gig with a “psychedelic visual set that’s going to provide a wholesome experience for the audience and in the process, tune them inward”. They’ve also created adult colouring books specially designed to accompany the album that will be sold at the show.
It’s a gig that you shouldn’t miss out on! Catch Blushing Satellite at ‘The Union’ launch gig this Sunday, 24th September at Blue Frog Bangalore.
