Haters, get used to it!
It seems like no matter how many times Mr. Zuckerberg says he will never make a dislike button, at least once a year, you can bet on a fresh rumor.
This time, rumors flooded in when it was discovered that FB is testing a thumbs down reaction inside of Messenger.
Facebook has confirmed the test is real!
Exciting right….. well, not quite!
A thumbs down button 👎 on the messaging platform of Facebook isn’t the same as an actual dislike button.
Unlike Facebook’s reactions, emoji in Messenger aren’t labeled.
Even if they do label it eventually, adding a ‘dislike’ button on Messenger (private conversations ) is entirely different than doing so on a Facebook post
If you’ve noticed Zuckerberg’s behavior towards adding the dislike button on FB, you would have figured by now he’s never serious about it.
“We’re thinking about it,” he said in a Q&A back in 2014. He has maintained that anything other than a “like” needs to be about creating empathy.
“We need to figure out the right way to do it so it ends up being a force for good, not a force for bad,” he said. That resulted in us enjoying the freedom of reacting on FB posts with “love,” “haha,” “wow,” “sad,” and “angry”—but not “dislike.”
And while Facebook hasn’t ruled out adding more reactions in the future, you can be sure that “dislike” will never make the shortlist.
Mark isn’t foolish to devolve into trolling the upvoting/downvoting dynamic that many other social platforms follow, also the FB advertisers would probably hate it.
‘Save the World’ is what Zuckerberg wants Facebook to represent and “Disliking” is not part of the vision.
So enjoy your little thumbs down on Messenger (If FB decided to rolls out the option) 👎
