‘Here’s to strong women: May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them’ !!
Happy International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day is celebrated on 08th March each year. Some celebrations have political and campaign for a cause perspective; others are more about showing love for the women in your life. Either way, it is a celebration of #GirlPower !
The first Women’s Day event was held in 1909, in New York. The event was a massive success with 15,000 women taking to the streets and setting the stage for celebrating International Women’s Day each year.
It was first celebrated in USA; other marches started around the world on 08th March in Russia, Denmark and England. International Women’s Day has since been celebrated around the world and garnered the reputation of a campaign to combat gender inequality.
Though there is a campaign perspective to International Women’s Day, in most countries the day is about spending time with the women you love and live with. It’s about appreciation; about recognition; about gratitude and respect; about showing care, love and concern; about gifting and pampering to say ‘Thank You’.
Each year, International Women’s Day has a different campaign theme. For 2018, is it #PressforProgress. Various findings say gender parity is over 200 years away ! This is alarming and there has never been a more important time to keep motivated and #PressforProgress. But things are changing; global activism for women’s equality fuelled by campaigns like #MeToo and #TimesUp have set the momentum for gender parity. There is a strong call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity. A strong call to #PressforProgress. The day is not country, group or organisation specific; the day is for collective effort ! Collectively, let’s all #PressForProgress.
Happy International Women’s Day !!
