Meet Ryan Fernando, our Nutrition Coach for a Fun, Young Bangalore
So, who is Ryan Fernando?
Ryan : I love Food, but even more I love the science of NUTRITION. About 5 years ago after helping a fitness trainer named Dinaz break the Guinness world of non-stop aerobics of 26 hours, I decided to launch a clinic called QUA NUTRITION to help everybody break their own personal bests!
I’m here to help YOU figure out your capacity in Nutrition. My background is 2 Masters Degrees in Clinical biochemistry and Food Biotechnology. Today I am the Chief Nutritionist at the clinic and your #NutritionCoach on the FITNESS HOUR on Indigo 91.9
I’m here to tell you what to eat, what not and how much. Getting the right nutrition is as important as a good workout.
So, what is nutrition ?
Well, we all eat – out of love and culture but when you add science to, its basically NUTRITION. In the weeks ahead we touch upon protein carbs, fats vitamins and minerals that come from foods and why you should eat some foods more and some not at all! I will throw in eating secrets of the champions and concepts that will make up get up with a bounce!
My first Nutrition tip is HYRDATION with good ol’ H20. It is the most important element in your body and is the elixir of life.
Aim for 8 glasses of water each day; 2 as soon as you wake up (you will be dehydrated) You lose about 25% of your athletic performance if you even dehydrate by 2%.
If you wanna blitz it with lemon and honey, DO IT! I like peppermint tea. Do two full glasses of water of coconut water with tea or coffee.
Drink the next 2 glasses of water (500 ml) during the Fitness Hour. Your sweating so replenishing on the Go is best.
If you find water boring, you can add tons of different fruits, veggies and herbs to give it a different taste. Better yet, get a green tea lemonade done.
You can also toss some fruit in a blender and make a sort of ‘concentrate’ and then mix it in with the water afterward.
Chill out! Cold water passes through your stomach faster which means your intestines will absorb it quicker and you’ll rehydrate quicker.
Each extra glass of water may help you consume 68 fewer calories at mealtime, so I reckon 200 calories cut out from your total daily intake, that’s 30 minutes of workout right there.
If your hold your own water bottle right this hour, hold your bottle up to the sun, give me swig and a smile!
WATER – its your own life giver, its your soul mate, don’t mess around by neglecting it!
