All the complaining, the whining, the chaos – throw it out the window! Bengaluru now boasts of a helitaxi service, something that the other metros and Asian cities don’t have. On 5th March, for the first time in India, Helitaxis ferried commuters between Electronic City to the Kempegowda International airport, reducing travel time from 2 hours to a mere 15 minutes!
And here’s the best part, way before the official launch, Indigo 91.9 RJs got a sneak peek as well as a ride on the heli to get a first hand experience. On February 14, few lucky couples in Bengaluru got an early chance to indulge in the helitaxi experience through a Valentine’s Day themed competition on Indigo 91.9 FM. RJ Reo was one of the first ones to `experience’ this service along with the lucky winners said, “It was my first time in a chopper and could not have asked for anything better. The pilot was awesome and he explained how the gadgets in the heli function. Was great to get an eagle eye’s view of the city, honestly, looking down, I didn’t know we were so construed. I am sure this service will help commuters shuttling between the airport”
The service will operate in two shifts during peak business hours – from 6:30 pm to 9.30 pm and from 3:00 pm to 6.15 pm. At present, the service is only available between Bengaluru Airport, HAL Airport and Electronic City.
Although there seems to be no respite from Bengaluru’s traffic, getting home from Kempegowda International Airport will become easier in the coming months – that is, if you are willing to shell out the money for it. The helitaxi service is being introduced in the city by Thumby Aviation, which will operate two Bell 407 helicopters, that can seat up to six people.
