Former Spice Girl Mel C lashes out at Little Mix for getting “more provocative”.
The I Know Him So Well singer says that she and her daughter Scarlett are huge fans of the band, but lamented how their image has changed since they won The X Factor 5 years ago.
“I love Little Mix. I loved them from The X Factor. I just thought they were so different,” she told the Sunday People.
“But they are getting more provocative. To me, they were kind of the closest thing to the Spice Girls we’ve seen. They are all gorgeous and great singers. But they weren’t sexy and it’s got more and more that way. I love them – but I just say, ‘Stay you’.”
She also says that she limits what she shows her 7-year-old daughter on social media because she’s worried about the effect of over-sexualisation in music.
“I’ve started to be more sparing in what I show her. I don’t let her watch videos by artists that aren’t appropriate for her. That makes me a bit sad,” she explained.
“All young women want to look sexy and hot, so I understand it’s hard. But I think it’s such a shame. We live in a narcissistic age – it’s 100% worse than when I was in the Spice Girls.
“It was a more innocent time, although we were criticised for wearing crop tops.”
Little Mix stood by their change in image earlier this year in the face of criticism.
“We wear what we feel comfortable in. We’re not overly sexy in what we do anyway. We go for sexy/cute. We’d never want to be scandalous,” Perrie Edwards said.
“I think we’ve got the right kind of balance. Some of us are 24. We aren’t going to be able to wear stuff like this for the rest of our life, and parade around in little dresses and stuff, but at the same time, we are just girls.”
Mel C recently premiered her latest single ‘Anymore’ off her seventh solo album Version Of Me, which is released on October 21.
